Do you see the boats?
Don’t be so blind!
Someone sent me the following little story:
The town is under water due to flooding, and the priest is standing in the street and praying for the town.
When the water reaches his knees, a boat stops and invites him to climb in. “No, you go on; I’ll wait here, because the Lord will take care of me,” says the priest.
When the water reaches his hips, another boat stops next to him, and again he says no, because the Lord will take care of him.
When the water reaches his neck, a third boats stops next to him, and again he says no thank you, the Lord will take care of him.
And so he drowns…
When he gets to heaven he asks the Lord: “Why did you let me drown? I dedicated my whole life to working for you. I always carefully obeyed all your commandments, but still you let me drown.”
The Lord then said to him: “Good grief, you ungrateful man! What nonsense are you speaking? I sent you three boats!”
I think most people don’t see the “boats” or opportunities that God sends them, and then when they one day find themselves battling financially or when they lose everything, they can’t understand why God is punishing them like this.
